Shelter Nottinghamshire Advice Service recognises that in our society groups and individuals have been and continue to be oppressed and discriminated against on the basis of their race, nationality, ethnic origins, religion, disability, poor health, gender, physical appearance, height, sexual orientation, marital status, responsibility for children, HIV/Aids status, educational attainment or age.

Shelter Nottinghamshire Advice Service further recognises that this discrimination takes many forms and includes both direct discrimination and that caused by practices and structures, which have discriminatory effects. It recognises that passive policies are inadequate and ineffective in combating discrimination and oppression. It will therefore positively seek to ensure that oppressed groups and individuals are not disadvantaged both in our provision of service and in the recruitment of staff, and that the make up of our staff and volunteer teams and of the Management Committee adequately represents the communities we seek to serve.
